As is
We moved in our new house on Tuesday, not getting access to our new house until around 5. We were blessed with much help from family and church family, and despite coming down with the flu (Evelyn was the first victim on moving day at noon) we are doing well.
We bought our new house as a "power of sale" meaning that the bank was selling it having taken it off the hands of the former owner. Everything about the house is in "as is" condition, since the bank just wants to sell the house and not have any more hassle. This week we have been discovering what "as is" means for our house. We had it inspected, and knew of a potential for burst water pipes in the kids addition part of the house-the potential has been realized! We had appliances delivered on Saturday, and the electical to the dishwasher is not what it ought to be. Many small things will need attention, like switches wired wrong, door handles not shutting... so we have no need to fear boredom for a good while!
Also as a complication of buying from the bank, and the house being winterized, we couldn't get our well water tested ahead of time...we are drinking from bottles for now, and hopefully not accidentally ingesting anything bad. The water is probably fine, but we don't get results 'til next week sometime, and we'd rather be safe than sorry. We're feeling queezy enough around here at the moment. ;)
We have so much to be thankful for! There is so much more space here, and we are already feeling the benefits of being able to spread out. Being out of the suburbs is lovely. We can see the stars at night so clearly! I almost hit a deer coming home at dusk, on our very own road!! The kids, when feeling up to it, have bundled up and gone sliding down one of our new sliding hills. We have two bathrooms with water. We have had so much help! We've had help with loading our truck, unloading, cleaning a big chunk of our house, doing laundry, help moving in our second load of boxes and furniture, bringing us soup and stew, plowing our driveway...we are feeling very taken care. :)
Never a dull moment!
(No pictures until we get internet figured out)
PS Our phone number is NOT the same. For now, if you call our old one, they'll tell you the new one. Not sure how long that will be there.
