We had a lovely layer of ice come pass through our neighbourhood. Lots branches came crashing down, and as a result we lost our power for three days.
We had no power for our stereo, but we still had music. Two bundled up girls played beautifully for us. ;)
The afternoon was spent learning a new board game. We had the camp stove (propane) on the deck and boiled water for tea, hot chocolate, and had soup for lunch. No, we didn't try it indoors. :o
We had icicles hanging off everywhere, and big branches crashing down off of our maples.
Shiny doesn't mean wet, it means a fat layer of very slippery ice. The stairs are still covered in ice-but now the snow on top is keeping it safe. The skating rink turned into an obstacle course instead of a rink.
The first night was dinner by candlelight. A very special treat for the younger children in our house!
If you squint hard enough you can read by candlelight too!
The windows let in a lot of light, so breakfast in the morning was bright enough we could even leave some curtains shut.
The second breakfast (after the photographed one) was getting too cold for the kids to manage cutlery with cold fingers, and gloves and eating wasn't easy either! After that meals were done at heated restaurants-and we visited our library a few times too. So many places close by had their power-just small neighbourhoods scattered throughout with power out.
It is sure nice to have a warm house now-especially when we had such cold days again!
