Our driveway may be bumpy and the patio full of weeds, but the "upper patio" is perfect for rollerblading, skateboarding, biking, etc. Just as long as noone is trying to eat there.
Someone hid their Kapla project in the closet, so it would last longer. Flink.
Craft time, Melanie being the one in charge.
"Beast" was replaced by "Beauty" who does a beautiful (and easy!) job of tilling up the soil.
Must be Sunday, we are out for a walk!
I got a new shelf to go with my gro-lights. It's not quite done here, but good enough to keep the plants growing in time for spring.
Too many plants for the shelf means that the playroom changes into the greenhouse.
Did you know that boys can sew? (Philip still pretends he can't even sew a button on his pants, but his sons are way past that stage! :) )
Nathan spends his spare time on his go-cart. It's a cast off tractor from friends, and he is planning on major modifications.
Time for some art--Evelyn copying a painting. She plans to be an artist when she grows up. (why wait?)
Daniel made himself a compass.
Jennifer and I went exploring together. We tried to check out a massive pump that was draining the flooded golf course. They sure had a lot of water to get out of there!
Evelyn volunteered to wash some dishes.
Cooking breakfast.
On most days you can find a kid or two with a nose in a book.
Yup, two.
Jennifer came up with a creative way of doing her math--covering all but the current question up. Maybe it was less overwhelming one question at a time?
I do not approve of this activity
but it sure looks like fun!
Three stooges.
More art work. Jennifer looked for what looked like the simplest picture in the whole book, and chose that one to copy.
Daniel made a few rockets. And launch pads.
The kids moved their equipment from the "poison ivy fort" to a new fort.
They had fun moving in.
Daniel loves writing letters in code to some friends that moved away.
Melanie is eager to cook for me, when it's food she loves that I wouldn't normally serve. Yum, grilled cheese!
Nathan has organ lessons via Skype, and taking his practice time very seriously.
With nothing better to do, we made a project of burying a hose so that we could bring some irrigation down the hill to a new garden.
The boys volunteered to help, which was a real treat!
You can't really see where it went! And soon there will be water down the hill and an extra garden rototilled for our excess vegetables. After all, if the whole world is shutting down, we may have to provide for ourselves like Laura and Mary Ingalls. Better give it a shot! (and try justify the expense of the new rototiller ;) )
Evelyn copied a favourite card of her (one that she thought she could manage) so she could send it to a friend for her birthday. She really misses seeing her friend every week or so! :(
A volunteer helping prepare the soil for my blueberry bush.
Melanie was working on an obstacle course.
Evening story hour. We loved reading this book after emergency lockdown measures were put in place. The bad guy in this story is making an "emergency" in people's minds so that he can step in and solve all their problems, when the time is ripe. Beware the TV and radio and the brainwashing! Haha.
Strawberries being transported via sledge.
Matthew inspecting my newly rototilled gigantic garden. Hopefully we can maintain such a big garden! It combines my two gardens of last year in a (sort of) pretty unified curve, instead of two randomly placed rectangles.
Matthew helped me water the wild cedars I transplanted. They are supposed to grow tall and hide the green bin at the top of the hill. So it will be invisible all year round. (maybe in 10 years time, I mean)
Evelyn lugging more strawberries for Melanie. How does she manage to get so many eager volunteers???
It's working!! And much faster than the last go-cart.

April, first half
Philip got a new office...or rather, he started working in his "once a week" office full time. He loves it.
Evelyn playing her game with her friends (they are only present in her vivid imagination).
Daniel, the bagel king.
Sunday bike rides became a new happening thing.
The roads can't get locked down, can they?
Fancy Sunday dinner.
Plus a fire. Hard to feel like Sunday is Sunday when you stay home all day, but we tried!
I have never liked shopping, but Covid restrictions have made it even less enjoyable for me. And putting limits on how many bags of milk I can buy (1 per family, are you crazy???) don't make me a cheerful customer.
Fortunately at home we can forget about all the craziness. Time to let all the rink "ice" out! Spring is coming!!
I wondered what all the up-and-down-the-stairs noise was the first day of April. Can you believe my coffee mill was completely filled with "coffee" in the wee hours of the morning? Nathan was cranky about all the noise, but I thought it was hilarious!! (not that I was fooled to drink steeped black pepper!)
Sure, I'll help cook the "no-it-wasn't-me" elf her breakfast! (heehee)
Not sure about eating purple eggs. Try them, Jennifer, try them and you may, I say!
Why do your math inside, when you can do it in the sun?
I think of Norman Rockwell paintings when I see this shot...Jennifer is just telling Daniel something in a "I know better than you" way. :p
School
is
almost
done
we
hope.
Sunday strolls were regularly done on the golf course.
Yes, Jennifer goes without her shoes when it's super cold, if she is allowed. Brr!
Time for a game of scrub.
The kids all got a taste of Skype piano lessons.
Their teacher would not believe it cost me $10 an hour for data
even on my home internet plan. Surely I was confused.
Wish my bill was confused!
All but Evelyn adapted ok to the new style of teaching. What else can you do? At least learning piano can go on, even if the economy stopped.
The Beast (old rototiller) did it's last job for me, tilling up a spot for Melanie's strawberries. It overheated in 5 minutes, so I decided it had kicked the bucket for real, this time.
Snow again!!
Evelyn keeping an eye on the sick chicken to make sure she doesn't eat things in my garden. (or is it Melanie's garden now that her strawberries are going in it?)
Shopping sucks! 2.5 hours to get my weekly groceries done. What a nighmare. I was so cranky by the time I saw the cashier, thirsty, hungry and ready for a nap! The lineup started in a corner of the store that I'd never seen before. Oh for a normal shopping trip!!
