June

Melanie made her first donuts every. Just in time for international donut day. Yum!
The chocolate ones she made later were even better! :)
The kids had a piano recital, and Evelyn was looking forward to her friend coming, as she was joining her sisters coming to see Evelyn's sisters.
Matthew was the first one in the pool! Lucky guy got to test the water for us.
I can touch in the deepest part!
The new spread that the pool was open for use, so soon there were kids drying up on the patio after having tried out the water!
Nathan asking for advice on his go-cart. How to keep the chain from bouncing off?
Almost done cleaning up the extra cement pd. All the hoses SEEM connected to the right places.
Melanie finished a skirt...her first pattern project completed on her own. The picture did not turn out, but the skirt did.
 Trying out the go-cart again.
We picked up some dodgeballs and enjoyed a new sport. For two days. Then the dodgeballs from the dollar store went flat.
 Evelyn and I.
Shh! Don't tell Nathan! He was busy somewhere so he thinks I was the one who did such a terrible job mowing. Melanie did just fine for a first time, and kind of enjoyed it. She just didn't want to hear over and over again by her big bro how much better he would have done it then her. So it's a secret.
I had to exercise a lot of self control not to pick up annuals in the stores every time I went shopping. They were so tempting! All my flowers were so late this spring and looked pitiful even in June!
More swimming and cleaning....it's not easy keeping the pool clean when the pump isn't running!
Nathan managed to get a job mowing for the neighbours. They hadn't mowed all year and he kept complaining at how bad it looked. Finally he went over and after an initial "no thanks" they called back and said "sure!". It was a huge job to move that down the first time, but now he gets it done in less than an hour, and it's starting to look good (as in no heaps of dead grass laying everywhere anymore. I love local jobs! Nathan and Melanie also muck out the other neighbour's horses 6 days a week. So nice to not have to drive. :)
 Volleyball
 sort of...
More swimming. Keep moving around the water to keep the green growth down!
Plumbing looks ready! There was a surprise pipe gushing water out, and lots of joints that needed tightening/tape. But...eventually things have become, what appears to be, watertight!
Evelyn wanted to go biking on a trail, so we obliged.
She kept up pretty good, so it was decent exercise for all of us!
 Zoom!
7 bikes in a van. Just have to go back for the kids. Local trails only!

planting growing and fixing

Rototilling the garden is a bit accomplishment every year, so please admire. The challenges of a limping a very old rototiller through another season were overcome. Thanks Dad! :)
Sweeping...I guess, or playing a game, more likely.
 Planning the plumbing out
Nathan and Melanie made a net out of an old telescoping pole, some fabric, pail leftovers and other odds and ends. It works very well, and is great for skimming off the goop!
Our very odd cement pad was removed after many hours of labour. Here Nathan is almost finished with it, hauling in some dirt...the last step is putting seed on it and watering it.
My project was doing fiberglass repair. Apparently all my hard work looks like a steak. Good thing it'll be covered in stones eventually.
My rhubarb that was moved is coming up nicely! Yum!
Finally, very late, there is some colour coming up in the gardens. A very slow start!
We had fun with an extension pack for Catan. Nice to do on a rainy day!
Our chickens got to move into their second fence. The rooster was making his "ladies check out this great food!" cluck for 10 minutes steady. It was the happiest day of the year for them. Too bad they picked it bare in less than a week!
Daniel has been outfitting his bear. Big (heavy) backpack, hat...
Nice time of year to use the sandbox!
Nathan doing some trouble shooting for engine maintenance and repair. Great to have a resource a phone or text away!
Checking out what Mom is working on.
Planting is almost finished. Looks so bare and empty. To the plants really need that much space between them? (I packed them a bit closer, but NOW it looks like the packages were right, and they really do grow big ;)

Melanie is even better than me at getting the kids to plant the seeds in the garden.
Evelyn herding our free range chicken back to her zone.
I was sure she'd only last a few weeks before being picked up by the abundant predators here. But so far, even with a night in the wild (we couldn't find her one night to tuck her in) she is still clucking around and enjoying lots more space than her feather pecking bully "friends". I hope they are jealous. Or sorry. But I doubt it.
Evelyn made a garden too. Very lovely!
Finally my ornamental pear tree flowered! It spent two springs with virtually no flower buds...so early this spring I sprayed it with some smelly stuff and it seems to have made a big difference!
 Monkeys.
Melanie saved a bunch of grass that Nathan mowed so that she could use it for her strawberry garden (in place of straw...which I wasn't gonna buy)
Thirsty chickens. Yeah, they have bare spots...they are not pretty. That's what happens when you are mean to each other! (I'm hoping for a life lesson here...)
Finally got our pool cover to stretch out...almost couldn't roll it back in again. :o  Hopefully we can get the motor fixed!
Clearing away the extra cement pad to get rid of the hot tub heater filter and plumbing. This way the stuff can be further from the pool too, as it really shouldn't be that close to the water!
