Lots of old pictures

Daniel is so handsome.  And such a talker now too.  He loves to play what his older siblings are playing, but also enjoys playing on his own when they are stuck doing schoolwork!  He still likes to do stuff he knows he shouldn't-like writing on the walls.  I'm glad he sticks to chalk lately when he's feeling like misbehaving. :)

The street cleaner is very fascinating.

Nathan is getting so much older!  His greatest wish is to have a saw and drill of his own, lots of wood and various other parts so that he can build his own car out of wood that he and his siblings could play with, and they'd never get bored!  Just today he thought that if he had two drills he could use the drill motors to turn the wheels, instead of using pedals.  But he'd first use the one drill to do any drilling for the car, and then use it for the motor.

Matthew loves to play outside, and spends a lot of his time as an observer.  He's taking it all in and coming up with some amazing stories, about what he did yesterday, of which I have no recollection!  It's hard to remember his stories, since they usually involve something getting bigger and stranger as the story goes on!
He also spends a lot of time doing crafty type stuff, and loves to give his creations to people he loves.  He's made a two cup-money holder for his Dad, and a spy glass for me (which was a bird beak gone wrong-he wanted to be a goose, and use his coat sticking out to be his wings).  His latest was a kite, which he proudly told us flew (showing a foot of the ground) this high!  It didn't go higher because the wind wasn't winding enough.  That was because we hadn't gone to the park with all the trees in it.  If we had gone to the one with the trees the trees would have made the wind windier, and the kite could have gone even higher than it did fly!

Fortunately Nathan doesn't mind to do "girlie" things, and I kick his Dad whenever he starts to make comments about stuff Nathan likes to do that he never was interested at when he was younger.  After all, he is Nathan, not Phil, of which we are all very thankful. :p

Jennifer is thrilled that she can crawl.  And she seems to get most of her enjoyment out of the freedom and joy of movement and exploration.

Daniel is strong enough (he proved me wrong!) to be the engine of the train, and pull his two bigger brothers up to the station.
Back down again is even easier!

An obvious advantage to getting adept at moving around the house, is getting adept at digging into things you shouldn't!  Jennifer now habitually passes things to me that she's found, with a guilty sort of grin, knowing that I likely will be moving the item she has found out of her reach.

Bedtime story time:
Daniel wanted to cuddle instead, for a short while,
and then decided to pretend he was Jennifer too, wanting to come up to his Mommy!

Living Upstairs again

We are enjoying our "new" house, and noticing every new imperfection that our less-than-gentle usage causes to the floors and walls!

Since everything looks better with a cute girl modeling in the picture, I have chosen only pictures that have beautiful females who will show off the new house to it's best advantage.
The flooring is hardwood, oak again, like the original floor, only in thicker pieces and wider slats, which makes if far more modern.  Plus it's much darker now!
Most of the walls upstairs are a buttery yellow, with some blue in our main living room.  Our new front door can be seen here, and above it, there is a matching glass window/transom.

We chose a dark floor and light walls primarily because it will motivate me to clean more often, since the dirt and grime will be most obvious with these choices!  ;)
And everyone knows it's silly to clean when things don't look very dirty yet.

Life downstairs

Was a tight squeeze.  But fortunately we managed to fit all our things down (aside from the living room and dining room furniture which stayed in the car port) and still there was room enough to access everything.
The kids' bedroom looked like a dorm, and they had great fun every night, and slept in a lot because they were too noisy at nights.
Daniel and Jennifer were the most unsettled about all the business of moving and living downstairs, combined with all the ruckus that occasionally occurred.  But they were quite adapted by the end, and by the time the floor guys were here with their air compressor and nail guns, these two slept through it from the safe distance of downstairs.

Summer!

Water fireworks

We've had a taste of summer here, which has been perfect for during our reno.  Our floor is supposed to be finished by noon today, but there are plenty of other things yet that need to be finished off.  But with the floor done we can put our table back inside, and our couches, and live in our upstairs a little.
